The University of Greenwich was awarded university status in 1992. Though it is mainly situated on the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College on the south side of the river Thames, the university has two other campuses in Avery Hill and Medway (in Chatham Maritime, Kent) as well. This institution has a diverse student body and a deep appreciation for arts and culture that can be seen through its participation in many artistic and cultural events.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Subjects and Admissions:
University of Greenwich offers Doctorate Degree Programs in various areas of subjects including Agricultural, Food Sciences, Architecture, Construction, Biomedical Sciences, Business, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Development Studies, Education and Training, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Health and Social Care, Humanities and Pharmacy. Applicants should have a first degree in a subject relevant to the desired postgraduate degree and a 6.5 on the IELTS or equivalent if English is not their first language. To apply, apart from their admission application, candidate must submit original certificates and a research proposal (at least 1000 words) to identify their main area of research.
Once the application is submitted to the desired school, the department may request an interview with the applicants in which it is interested. It is important to point out that international and overseas candidates will be interviewed via telephone.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Duration and Process:
Upon acceptance into one of the Doctorate Degree Programs the student will receive a contract letter, joining instructions, and help creating their student record. New students must register with the university and the Research Degrees Committee and sign an intellectual property Assignment Agreement. Fulltime PhD students can expect to finish in three years and fulltime MPhil students in two.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Financial Assistance:
For students needing funding to pursue one of the Doctorate Degree Programs there are several options available. Seven UK research councils offer funding for many subjects and the University of Greenwich offers several international student awards, like two Progression Scholarships and a Nationality Scholarship to help with funding. Some research departments of university also offer bursary for tuition fees (only for fresh) PhD candidates.
