Edge Hill University started to open its doors for prospective students since 1885. Situated in Liverpool, the university was named after the locale at which it was originally built. However, when the student population outgrew the original site, the campus transferred to the market town of Ormskirk in Lancashire, England. Edge Hill University was also recognized by the Privy Council and awarded them the Taught Degree Awarding Powers in 2005 and was then awarded the university status in 2006.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Subjects and Admissions:
Edge Hill University offers Doctorate Degree Programs in various subjects including Business, Crime, English, Environment, Geography, Health, History, Law, Leisure, Local Policy Studies, Management, Social Science, Sport, Education and many more. Admission for research and doctorate degree programs should be made directly at Edge Hill University’s research office. All interested applicants are required to complete the admission forms with two academic references and send it directly to the research office. For admission in all doctorate degree programs, you need a good honours degree in the related area of research from a recognized university. Candidates will be encouraged to obtain a masters degree on first instance before formally entering for PhD track. Applicants with honours degree will be registered (initially) for an MPhil degree and will transfer to the PhD degree program on satisfactory progress.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Duration and Process:
Upon admission to the university, the student will be assigned to at least one supervisor who will work with him to achieve the higher degree. The first stage of this program will be official approval of research proposal by research committee. Student will be monitored by his/her supervisory team for regular progress and a formal progress report will be submitted by the student annually. A full-time student will be transferred from MPhil to PhD after 18 months of initial registration. The final part of this program will be submission of a research thesis and oral examination. Overall a full time student should expect two to three years of education before being awarded the degree while part-time students can complete it in three to four years.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Financial Assistance:
For most Doctorate Degree Programs, Edge Hill University offers some financial support in the shape of scholarship and grants for international applicants. University will cover living expanses and can award 500 to 2000 pounds to eligible candidates. For UK and EU candidates, university refers their students to educational trusts and charities and for research council’s fundings. University also offers an alumni discount of 50% for all departments.
