Buckingham University is the only university in Britain that doesn’t utilize government funding. Started as a non-profit endeavor, it remains the only private university to date. Incorporated in 1973, the University focuses its studies on Law, Humanities, Business and Science.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Subjects and Admissions:
Buckingham University offers various Doctorate Degree Programs, concluding with the award of DPhil. Currently university offers these programs in Bioinformatics, Business, Computer Science, Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolic Research, Economics and International Studies, Education, English, English Literature, Law, Psychology, Social and Economic Transform. It is important to point out that apart from traditional PhD degrees, university also offers a PhD by Published work for its graduates and staff. To apply for a DPhil, (in most subjects) you need a second class Honours degree from a UK university or equivalent qualification from a recognized university. International students applying to these Programs should expect to provide proof of sufficient competence in English to pursue ones research (IELTS (6.5) test results or TOEFL (577)). With admission application, you also need to include a research proposal for departmental considerations.

Doctorate Degree Programs - Duration and Process:
Students accepted into the Doctorate Degree Program will be expected to complete their research within three years if attending full time, and six years if attending part time. The university makes every effort to match up student, research topic and supervisors appropriately, to ensure the best odds of successful completion of Doctorate Degree. Students will undergo an annual review of their progress through an allocated research officer. This program will be completed with the submission of a final thesis (expected to be 100,000 words in length) and oral exam.
Doctorate Degree Programs - Financial Assistance:
Financial Aid is available through a limited number of scholarships for international students. University directly offers an amount of 4,000 per year for four international students (for each department of study). For postgraduate students, two Ondaatje Scholarships covers 50% of one year fee and living expenses for international or Buckingham graduates. Funding can also be acquired through your country of origin under certain circumstances. The university also offers discounts to students who pay their fees up front as well as to exceptional students. For UK (as well as American students) will be supported for any loan applications like any other UK universities.
