Background: Prince Charles officially unveiled the University of Derby in February 2006. The school is situated in the city of Derby, England. The University has over three hundred study programs for the undergraduates. There are also Doctorate Degree Programs, as well as short courses.

To qualify for a Research Degree Program, the applicant must submit the application and fee assessment forms. The school also requires at least two academic references and proof of the English language competency. In addition, the applicant should be a first or second honor student in class or any equivalent qualification. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
The application can take from six to twelve weeks before the faculty can decide. A letter will be sent to inform the applicant if they have passed or not. Please note, university also offers PhD by Published Works program. However to apply, you must be university employee or graduate of University of Derby. Duration and Process: Full time Doctorates are usually completed in three years while the MPhil only takes two years. If you will consider part time, an MPhil will take up to four years and six years for a PhD. Students overseas are usually on full time basis. The required length of thesis for Science, technology, arts and design is up to 30,000 words for MPhil and up to 60,000 words for PhD. In law, humanities, social sciences, and education, the required number of words for MPhil is 40,000 to 60,000 words and 75,000 to 100,000 words for PhD.
Financial Assistance: There is an array of funding opportunities for Doctorate Degree Programs, and students can avail of any if they are eligible. Some of the funding organizations are the Economic and Social Research Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the Economic and the Arts and Humanities Research Council Funding.
